Martin Luther King was assassinated because of his fight against hatred & against prejudice & discrimination in society. This inequality persists still. The data is clear. The experience of those around us speak to this. Prejudice remain. Hatred remains. https://t.co/WXcNZzdXP1 https://t.co/Vk9k9WpFCY

Earlier that year in April, Robert Kennedy gave a rousing & poignant speech, but one that attempts to inspire action. In it he argues that: “This is a time of shame and sorrow....” He was speaking about the murder of the black civil rights campaigner Dr Martin Luther King https://t.co/M7k0UdCpwa

Bobby Kennedy (RFK) was assassinated in June 1968. He was murdered after becoming the favourite for candidate for President of the USA. https://t.co/IZGl0Ni26o

Good morning everyone. Today we set aside most of Covid-19 planning to reflect on a speech by Bobby Kennedy. A series of tweets over the weekend will I hope inspire and give pause for reflection & action. PSHE & citizenship are maligned as subjects but schools teach them well.

Channel and maintain that outrage ... let’s make sure that we keep the momentum going until our children return to the classrooms and after that. This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon https://t.co/ZyawMTg1tr

Primary Phase

Please find below information about learning for Primary pupils in the event of a school closure

Learning Packs

All children have been provided with HATO Learning Packs across a range of subjects. The work provided is based on children’s prior learning and is aimed at ensuring children recap and practise core skills. This will include recapping skills such as number bonds, times tables, phonic sounds and spellings and revisiting topics they have already studied to see how much they can remember.

If your child is finding any of the work that has been set challenging, please do not worry. Please do encourage the children to have a go at the different tasks and try their best.

CGP books

For some year groups, children have received CGP books across for different subjects. These books are for the children to work through at their own pace. They are again to be used to recap and practise core skills.

Reading

As always, reading every day remains as important as ever. Please encourage your child to read for at least 10 minutes a day and where possible talk about what they have read. This aids their understanding of the text and supports their comprehension skills.

Twinkl

Twinkl is a website that produces and provides learning resources for teachers, parents and children. Twinkl have communicated that they will be offering every teacher, parent and carer one month of ultimate membership. To set this up, go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS.

Communication

During term time, a member of the team will contact you and your child to see how you are and how your child is getting on with their learning. It will also provide you with the space to answer any questions about the work set as part of the Learning Packs.

Concerns

If you have any specific concerns or queries, please do contact us via primarylearning@harristottenham.org.uk – the account will be monitored closely and we will endeavour to respond to all queries as quickly as possible.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers for working so hard and so quickly to create a range of activities and resources to engage your child over this period. I would also like to thank-you for your ongoing support and understanding. If you have any ideas for how we can help you further, please contact Ms Smith, Head of Primary on e.smith@harristottenham.org.uk.
