Guidance on celebrating birthdays
Celebrating milestones such as birthdays can play a positive role in pupils’ social development for many different families. As such, we do want to ensure that children’s birthdays are special, enjoyable and memorable and so we aim to create a special environment for your child on their birthday. This could include warm wishes, the class singing, a special chair to sit on.
As you may know we are an Allergy Aware School and have taken this step to ensure we can remain as safe an environment as possible for our children who have allergies. We are also a healthy school and actively seek to promote healthy lifestyles.
Our aims around our guidance for celebrating birthdays is to
- promote inclusivity and ensure that no child feels left out or overwhelmed by expectations surrounding festivities,
- ensure we are aligned to health and safety regulation
- foster an environment of respect for diverse practices within the school.
Celebrating Birthdays at Harris Academy Tottenham Primary
If children do want to bring in something to celebrate their birthday, they are able to do either of the following. This is optional.
- Children can by bringing in a favourite book to share with the class (appropriate to their age group)
- Donate a new or used book to the class of school library in celebration of their day.
Due to Health and Safety risks, we will not be able to give out sweets/ cakes or party bags.
We ask that parents/ carers do not send cakes/ sweets/ party bags into classes with your children on their birthday as this does impact on our ability to remain an Allergy Aware/ Healthy School as school.
If we do receive cakes/ sweets, these will be handed back to the parent/carer at the door if possible. If not, they will be taken to the school office where parents can collect them at the end of the day.
Thank you for your continued support.
