Parkinson’s UK

This year Harris Academy Tottenham has chosen Parkinson’s UK as our official Charity. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition; this means it causes problems with the brain and gets worse over time. There is currently no cure. However, Parkinson's UK are constantly working towards finding one, as well as offering help, treatment and support for those living with the condition. Throughout the year, we will be raising money through different events to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

There will be many events throughout the year to raise money for our Academy charity - Parkinson’s UK.

Some of the teachers at the Academy have decided to kick off the fundraising by running a marathon. Please find the website here, if you would like to donate.

As well as raising money for Parkinson’s UK, we will also be raising money for other causes as well. Examples include:

·         Macmillan Cancer Support

·         Children in Need

·         Operation Christmas Child

·         Save the Children

Macmillan Cancer Support

On the 29th September, we held a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer support. The total amount raised was £99.11. Thank-you to everyone who provided us with donations and for all who joined us for coffee and cake.

Children in Need

On Friday 17th September, the Primary phase of the Academy held a cake sale for Children in Need. The total raised was £136. Thank-you for all your kind donations.

Operation Christmas Child

This year at HATO we participated in a scheme called Operation Christmas Child, run by the Samaritans Charity. This scheme focuses on helping needy children around the world who have never had privilege of receiving gifts due to their unfortunate circumstances. All pupils gathered to raise awareness for this cause and ended up collecting 45 boxes filled with goodies for boys and girls to make their Christmas special this year! An amazing cause for amazing children.  Thank-you to Ms Suleman for organising.

Save the Children

On Friday 15th December, we gave all the pupil’s at the Academy, the chance to wear a Christmas Jumper to raise money for Save the Children and Parkinson’s UK’. Pupils were asked to donate £1 to wear a Christmas Jumper with their school uniform. We raised £305.

The Haringey Christmas Project

The primary phase of the Academy took part in the Haringey Christmas Project competition run by the Metropolitan Police. The children had to design Christmas posters to advertise the project. The winners of the competition will see their poster all around Haringey.

Whilst we did not win the overall competition, we really enjoyed taking part and the police chose three school winners and gave each child a participation certificate.

The winners were:

1st Place; Elsie and Laila

2nd Place: Neriah

3rd place: Saan

Well done to all involved and thank-you to the Police for involving us in this competition.
