EYFS and KS1 Curriculum

Our Curriculum

Learning at Harris Academy Tottenham is creative, exciting and fun! It prepares children for the world we live in by providing the foundations of learning to support them now and in the future. Our curriculum has been written specifically for our children to ensure it is relevant and engaging.

In January 2014, the Government produced a new primary curriculum; our curriculum is fully in line with this and will cover all the aspects of learning as required. Each half term, we will focus on one whole school theme. This will then be divided into year group specific aspects. Our aim is to link most subjects to the overall theme, encouraging a more in depth knowledge and understanding for our children.  The curriculum maps are included below.

The curriculum is built of daily maths, literacy and reading/ phonic sessions to develop children’s foundations for learning. Children will also study a wide variety of additional subjects including Geography, History, Science, Spanish, Art, DT, RE and PSHE. As an All-through Academy, we are fortunate enough to receive specialist support from our secondary colleagues including team planning and teaching.


Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum

Harris_Tottenham_Primary_Image_20Learning within the Early Years follows the themed curriculum, however learning will primarily be based on learning linked to children’s interests. Children develop quickly in the early years and our Early Years staff aim to provide a supportive and exciting variety of child initiated learning opportunities to enable the children to have the best possible start in their learning journey.

The EYFS curriculum is linked to Development Matters, which highlights the characteristics of effective learning. These  are evident throughout the early years planning and teaching, and include:

  • - Playing and learning to ensure children are engaged.
  • - Active learning to ensure children are motivated.
  • - Creative and critical thinking opportunities to support children with problem solving.
