Specification: AQA

Method of Assessment: 100% exam at the end of year 13.

Course Overview: Students will sit 3 exams and each of the 3 units is assessed by a 2 hour exam. Exams include mixture of short and long answer questions.

 

Units Studied:

Paper 1: Education with Theories and Methods: Education, Methods in context and Theories and Methods

Paper 2: Topics in Sociology: Families and Households and Beliefs in Sociology

Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Theories and Methods: Crime and deviance and Theory and Method

 

Entry Requirements: Students require a minimum of 7 GCSE’s at grade 5 or above or equivalent, including English (Literature or Language) and Mathematics, with at least a grade 6 in a related subject.

Career Opportunities Sociology will prepare you for careers that centre on the challenges and demands that members of a society face.  This leads to jobs in Social Services, Education, Criminal Justice, Welfare Services, Government, Counselling, Charities and the Voluntary Sector.  They include Charity Fundraiser, Community Development Worker, Counsellor, Lecturer, Housing Officer, Teacher, Probation Officer, Social Researcher, Social Worker and Welfare Rights Adviser
