Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

At Harris Academy Tottenham, we passionately believe in the significance of a robust Careers Education plan, that caters for pupils needs from a young age.

This policy aims to explain to all stakeholders the ways in which the Academy complies with our legal obligations under Section 42b of the Education Act (1997).

Our Careers Coordinator is Afia Chaudhry: a.chaudhry@harristottenham.org.uk

Our Careers Leader is Anna Hogan: a.hogan@harristottenham.org.uk

Our Careers Advisor is Natalie Phillips: natalie.phillips@harrisfederation.org.uk

All can be contacted through CEIAG@harristottenham.org.uk or 020 3772 4243

Pupil entitlement

All pupils in years 8-13 are entitled:

  • to find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
  • to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
  • to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

There are lots of opportunities that you will receive to develop your understanding of careers and future pathways. These include:

  • Curriculum Focus. Through your subjects, teachers explore skills, links to specific careers and exposure to professionals that enable you to consider the relevance of that subject in the wider world.
  • Speakers4Schools and Inspiring the Future
  • Making the Leap careers days
  • STEM and Enterprise Curriculum. This enables you to assess your skills and explore your strengths and areas for development.
  • Careers Drop Down Days. You receive specific sessions from professionals around different aspects of the careers curriculum (pathways, employers, links to industry).
  • 1-to-1 interviews with our careers advisor. This provides independent advice and guidance for you.
  • Trips and Visits to employers, universities and future course providers. This includes visiting speakers working with you.
  • Family Partnership Workshops. These occur around key points in your education -e.g.  Making your options choices to ensure that you have support both at school and at home. Luisa Ares Vilas works with us throughout the year and visits the Academy regularly to ensure that independent advice and guidance is available for you.

Provider access requests

A provider wishing to request access should contact Afia Chaudhry, Careers Coordinator or Anna Hogan, Careers Leader.

Telephone: 020 3772 4243

Email: ceiag@harristottenham.org.uk

A number of events are integrated into our school careers programme, which will offer providers the opportunity to visit our school to speak to pupils and/or their parents/carers, these are detailed in our careers plan, which has been planned in accordance with the GATSBY benchmark guidance.

We have focused opportunities targeted at STEM and High Achieving students with bespoke programmes.

Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature with our receptionist at the main Reception. This will be placed into the Careers section of our Library, which is regularly updated and is accessible to all students throughout the school day and for after school activities.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Review of Impact

The impact of the CEIAG programme will be measured through:

  • Destination data at the end of Year 11 and Year 13
  • Pupil voice surveys and feedback
  • Parent voice surveys and feedback

Careers and Enterprise Plan

The following careers plan indicates the key events over the course of the academic year which seek to improve careers knowledge understanding and employability skills. It also includes contact with external partners and supporters.

The impact of the careers and enterprise provision is measured by the Whole School Careers and Enterprise Survey conducted in SUM2 as well as the NEET/Destinations report produced in October of each year.

If you would like further information of these activities, please contact one of the members of the Careers team (details at top of page).
