EYFS - Reception (Robins and Sparrows Class)
Welcome to Reception! We are so thrilled that your child will be starting their learning journey with us at Harris Academy Tottenham.
As previously discussed at our welcome meeting, home visits will commence from the 4th September 2018. This is an informal meeting to support your child’s transition for when they start at the Academy. If you need to discuss your appointment time for your home visit, please do not hesitate to contact the main office.
Children in reception will start the Academy with a phased transition, to ensure it is a successful and positive experience for them.
On Wednesday 11th September 2019: Your child will attend either the morning or afternoon session. This has already been sent to you and will be confirmed at your home visit.
The morning session will run between 9am and 11am
The afternoon session will run between 1pm and 3pm.
On Thursday 12th September 2019: Your child will attend for the morning and lunchtime. Children will then be picked up at either 12.15 or 12.30pm. Children will be given a school lunch. If you would prefer your child to have a packed lunch, please send this in a named packed lunch box.
On Friday 13th September 2018: Your child will attend for the full day and need to be picked up at 3.20pm.
Wow! What a term Reception have had! They have settled into school exceptionally well – we are all very proud of them!
They started the term having their RWI lessons as a whole class but have made excellent progress that they have now been split into smaller learning groups so that they can make even more progress. Some of us are working on recognising our Set 1 sounds and some of us are moving onto reading short stories. It has been lovely to see the children remembering their phonic sounds and using them back in the provision, where they have had the opportunity to write thank you cards, draw story maps, write lists and describe characters from our focus stories.
In our Maths lessons we have been working extremely hard to secure our knowledge of numbers up to 10 – we have been finding one more and one less, counting forwards and backwards, ordering numbers and writing numbers. After the Christmas holidays, we are hoping to consolidate our knowledge of numbers and move on to learning all about shapes. Throughout Continuous Provision sessions, the children have had a wide range of learning opportunities to build upon their creative skills, communication and language, social and emotional development and physical development. Having access to both the indoors and outdoors provision means that Reception have been able to paint portraits, count out objects as well as practise their balance skills on the daily assault course.
Both Robins and Sparrows have had a wonderful first term, we are really looking forward to seeing the progress that the children make next year. Thank you for your ongoing support this term, have a lovely break!
