Harris Academy Tottenham is a specialist centre for Mathematics and Enterprise.
All students, from Reception to Year 11 receive 5 lessons a week of outstanding Mathematics provision. The curriculum is progressive, and based on the Singapore Maths curriculum, placing mastery at the centre of our approach.
In our Primary phase, we ensure that students are equipped with firm foundations in Numeracy. Our Primary phase has recently been accepted as a Maths hub, which will place us as a centre of excellence for Numeracy throughout all phases of the Academy.
In the Secondary phase, we ensure that all students achieve fluency in their Mathematics, developing a deep understanding of fundamental concepts and being able to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. Students will learn how to reason mathematically and develop understanding through identifying and communicating relationships between different strands of Mathematics and building on prior knowledge. Students will learn to apply their Mathematics to variety problems with increasing sophistication and will be given the opportunity and encouragement to persevere in seeking solution.
Through developing an excellent Numeracy culture across our curriculum, students engage with the critical transferrable Mathematics provides. Our STEM provision - a lesson a week - allows students to utilise these skills alongside the disciplines of Science, Engineering and Technology, to realise the practical potential of these skills.
Through our links with the Maths Hub and Harris Westminster Sixth Form, students receive opportunities to explore related disciplines, expanding their horizons beyond the Curriculum.
In the tradition of our Sponsor, Lord Harris, we believe that enterprising skills are essential, and empower students to utilise their personal traits as they move forward into their chosen careers.
We encourage students to have an enterprising attitude, self-confidence and a ‘can-do’ mentality. There are many opportunities for students to engage in enterprise work-related learning and to interact with a variety of adult role models in order to build their self-esteem and their understanding of the nature of business, risk and achievement.
We work closely with local businesses to ensure students have access to industry professionals, both to raise aspiration and to give an insight into professional lifestyles.
