“I'm proud of the way I've dealt with setbacks. It's hard when you feel down and you think, 'Why is the world doing this to me?' But you must pick yourself up again. That's what makes you a better athlete”

Jessica Ennis

Within the primary phase, we aim to provide all pupils with high-quality physical education which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in physical activities. Our PE curriculum aims to provide children with the knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • games
  • dance
  • gymnastics
  • athletics
  • swimming
  • outdoor and adventurous activities.

We also embrace the Association for Physical Education's (AfPE) 'Head (thinking), Hands (doing), Heart (behavioural change)' approach to ensure that all children are equipped with the attributes needed for lifelong participation in physical exercise.

PE is a compulsory subject for KS3 and is currently taught once a week in a double lesson for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. Lessons consist of a combination of team and individual activities that develop a wide range of skills and attributes needed to be a successful athlete.

KS4 pupils choose what pathway they wish to study; we offer GCSE PE and Pearson’s BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Sport depending on what course best suits the pupil’s needs. These are both taught across three lessons per week at Year 10 and four lessons per week at Year 11. PE is also compulsory in Primary and is taught to all year groups once a week.

Harris Academy Tottenham seeks to offer opportunities for all pupils to enjoy a variety of sports at all levels through stimulating classroom-based lessons and an extensive extra-curricular programme, such as Football, Netball, Basketball, Trampolining, Fitness Training, Table Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, Rounder’s, Badminton and Rugby. The main aim of PE is to encompass enjoyment and satisfaction and thereby encourage a lifelong commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. Details of the primary PE curriculum can be downloaded below too.

Mission statement

Our pupils will cultivate their critical ability to analyse performance as well as develop their physical oracy through discussions and feedback on peers’ and elites’ performances.

They will formulate strong arguments using scientific evidence to express opinions and ideas. They will demonstrate a range of skills across sports, not only what has been traditionally played.
