If you're meeting up with others this weekend, please be responsible. You can meet in groups of up to six people - but remember to follow social distancing guidelines by staying 2 metres apart from others who are not in your household or support bubble.

If you’re going out this weekend, don’t forget your face covering. Lockdown might be easing but it’s essential we all follow the rules to keep each other safe. remains a real and present threat. {thanks to }

I spent June working on this longread, hearing devastating accounts of what lockdown meant for children at risk, as the systems meant to protect them either ceased functioning, or were thrown into chaos. Huge thanks to the many contributors.

One of the most brilliant things about is how they are able to look at complex issues in such depth. Very proud to have contributed to this piece by

Starting Year 7

Dear Parent/Carer

I am delighted that your child has been offered a place at Harris Academy Tottenham for September 2020. We are an outstanding academy in which children experience the very best that has been thought and said. This first tentative step will be the beginning of a 7- year journey.

While no school knows when we will re-open or in what capacity, all Haringey schools and Harris Federation schools are working hard on our action plans for when we do re-open. Your child will be given an exciting and supportive transition into senior school and we will communicate often with you to make sure you as parent feel happy and aware each step of the way. We will, in all cases, follow the advice from Public Health England and the DfE.

Away from Covid, we very much look forward to working with you during the next phase of your child’s life journey and education. Harris Federation academies are a collaborative group of academies with drive and ambition. We want the very best for your child and for them to develop all their talent and interests whether in reading or in experimenting. Your child will benefit from being a part not just of our single academy but will benefit from the opportunities created by the rich and varied academic and sporting programmes that the Harris Federation promotes and the trips and visits that make learning fulfilling.

An unprecedented year

You will appreciate that this is an unusual year! And one in which many of us are anxious even as adults. It is very much our intent with the intake of Year 6 to focus on settling nerves and helping children adjust to this new world.

We know that perhaps more than ever, pupils will have mixed feelings about the move to secondary school. We want to reassure you that despite these unprecedented circumstances, we are committed to working with you to ensure that the next phase of your child’s learning is as exciting and successful as they can be. Induction plans are very much in place and the pastoral care we will offer when you come to Harris Tottenham is outstanding.

You will know that given the current circumstances, schools are navigating unchartered waters in terms of managing transition through the virtual world! We will do our very best to provide you with the support and guidance you need. We are considering quite carefully the mechanisms of support we will offer your child in those first weeks of term, to ensure they are as productive and supportive as they can be.

I hope too that you will understand that, like all schools, we are awaiting further guidance from the Department for Education, before confirming specific arrangements. To answer some of your questions, we have put together a frequently asked questions guidance sheet, which I hope you will find useful.

Our website will be a key source of information sharing, as will email over the coming weeks and months. Please do familiarise yourself with the link here:

I have published a video on our website that welcomes you to the Academy. You will receive regular communication from us, including introductions and welcomes from Form Tutors, and a transition project to complete over the Summer term.

I would also like to draw your attention to our Parent Carer Information Booklet. Here you will find lots of information about the day to day running of the Academy. Please do drop us an email if you would like this translated into another language.

Also included with this letter are details of how to access our online Essential Pupils Information Pack. It is important that the forms are completed and submitted to us by Friday 22nd May 2020. Please visit our website to download the forms at:

On behalf of all the staff at Harris Academy Tottenham, I look forward to welcoming you to the Academy in the near future. I hope that you will find your time with us enjoyable and engaging.

Yours faithfully,

Nick Soar
