Transition events

Taster Day (for pupils), Wednesday 3rd July, 9am-11.30am

Year 7 students are invited to their Taster Day on Wednesday 3rd July. Students will get a glimpse of what school-life will be like from September. They will take part in several lessons with their teachers in core subjects, creative arts, and PE. On this day, students are not expected to bring any additional items, such as a PE kit or writing equipment. All required items will be provided by their teachers.

Pupils are expected to arrive at 9.00am through the Year 7 gate on Ashley Road. The sessions will end at 11.30am with pupils leaving the site through the same Year 7 gates they entered. From here, parents attending the information assembly will then be able to collect their children.

Information Assembly (for parents), Wednesday 3rd July, 11-11.30am

Also, on Wednesday 3rd July we will be hosting an Information Assembly for parents where you will hear from Ms Kanika Forbes, Head of Secondary and the Head of Year 7. As well as meeting key people, parents get to hear some key information in readiness for Summer School and the September start of term.

The information assembly will start at 11.00am and end at 11.30am. Parents will need to come through Secondary reception at the start of the event. Once the assembly is complete parents will then be guided to the Year 7 gate at which point, they will be able to collect their children.

Summer School, Monday 22nd-Friday 26th July

From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July, Harris Academy Tottenham will be running an exciting summer school for all incoming Year 7 students. The days will run from approximately 9:00am to 3:00pm and lunches will be provided (your child is welcome to bring a packed lunch if they would prefer to). Students will experience a variety of subjects from our curriculum ranging from core subjects to creative activities in Arts, and PE.

We are expecting all incoming Year 7 pupils to take part in our Summer School. If there is any valid reason for not attending, you must provide this reason in question 9 of the form.

Uniform

At Harris Academy Tottenham, we are pleased to have a traditional and professional uniform for students within all stages of the Academy. A uniform creates a sense of identity and community. It promotes a professional approach to learning and creates a positive learning environment. We are very proud of the students at Harris Academy Tottenham, and we expect students to take pride in themselves and their Academy.

Our uniform is provided through School Uniform Direct services. A full price list is available on their page. Click HERE to log on to their website. Please place your summer order immediately and before the deadline of 1st August for delivery before the start of the new term.

Uniform list

Bag	Messenger or rucksack with Academy colours and emblem. No other bags will be allowed in the Academy.
Coat & Hats	Plain black - no logo. No leather and no denim.

PE Kit

Item	Description
Shorts	Plain black shorts or black Academy shorts.
Top	Plain black t-shirt or black Academy top with emblem.
Socks	Black football socks – knee length.
Shoes	Sports shoes (trainers) No canvas or high-top boots of trainers.
Jacket	Black Academy jacket with Academy emblem (optional).
Trousers	Plain black jogging bottoms or black Academy trousers.
Sports kit bag	Academy boot bag (optional).

Additional guidance

Pupils are not allowed to wear make-up (including nail varnish or false nails) to school. If they do, they will be asked to remove it on entry to the Academy. No jewellery is to be worn except for small plain metal discreet stud earrings in each ear and a plain watch. Hairstyles should be kept to an appropriate style – no extreme haircuts (this includes Mohicans) or colouring (natural shades only), or lines shaved into eyebrows. If the Hijab is worn, it must be plain black.

The Academy reserves the right to make a judgement on acceptability. Pupils not adhering to the uniform policy will either be sent home to change or will be placed into our referral room, until a suitable arrangement can be made.

A message from the Executive Principal

We are an outstanding academy in which children experience the very best that has been thought and said. This first tentative step will be the beginning of a 7-year journey with us, during which we have one central aim: to furnish them with choice.

What we mean by this is simple. Our hope is that, when your child leaves our academy, they leave with more choices than they had when they arrived.  They may choose to study law at the University of Cambridge, or medicine at the University of Manchester; they may choose an apprenticeship in carpentry, or a career as an entrepreneur. They may, as I once did, choose to teach. Whatever they do, we want them to have choice.

That is why our curriculum and our teaching are as ambitious as they are.  If we have high hopes for your children’s futures, those hopes must be reflected in the expectations we have of them.  Our teachers are subject experts, and we see their role as communicating their knowledge and inspiring the next generation of thinkers through exposure to a highly academic curriculum.

Our behavioural expectations are simple too and it is our hope that our young people will become role models and leaders in their community. We 'sweat the small stuff' so the big stuff doesn’t happen. We do not see warmth and strict as mutually exclusive. Like you are at home, we are strict on behaviour because  we care about our young people and their futures.

These are strange times, and though we cannot at this moment invite you through our doors to see for yourselves the truly special place that Harris Academy is, we hope that our video and the materials on our website give you a flavour of what we are about.

If you do decide to choose our school, we very much look forward to working with you during the next phase of your child’s life journey and education. Harris Federation academies are a collaborative group of academies with drive and ambition. We want the very best for your child and for them to develop all their talent and interests whether in reading or in experimenting. Your child will benefit from being a part not just of our single academy but will benefit from the opportunities created by the rich and varied academic and sporting programmes that the Harris Federation promotes and the trips and visits that make learning fulfilling.
